From April 2012. This series of prints was inspired by the belief that seven energy centers that run along our spine and govern emotional, physical, and spiritual needs. The Root Chakra at the base, then the Sacral Chakra, Solar Plexus Chakra, Heart Chakra, Throat Chakra, Third Eye Chakra, and Crown Chakra. There is a Taoist story of an old farmer who had worked his crops for many years. One day his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his neighbors came to visit. "Such bad luck," they said sympathetically. "Maybe," the farmer replied. The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses. "How wonderful," the neighbors exclaimed. "Maybe," replied the old man. The following day, his son tried to ride one of the untamed horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. The neighbors again came to offer their sympathy on his misfortune. "Maybe," answered the farmer. The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army. Seeing that the son's leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbors congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out. Nakamura and Csíkszentmihályi (psychologists) identify the following six factors as encompassing an experience of flow : - intense and focused concentration on the present moment - merging of action and awareness - a loss of reflective self-consciousness - a sense of personal control or agency over the situation or activity - a distortion of temporal experience, one's subjective - experience of time is altered - experience of the activity as intrinsically rewarding, also referred to as autotelic experience I've become increasingly interested in the psychology behind this state of mind and have begun to employ it in my processes.
